The birth of my infatuation or perhaps I should say my obsession with photography began in the mid nineties. Then my main subjects were my children, since my children have left the nest for many years now my passion for photography has never faded but rather grown in a different direction. I have discovered that beauty is never ending, taking on forms that I could have never imagined. I feel blessed that my world has expanded through photography and hope my passion never weakens.

Nothin
I wish I could say that I had quite the active holiday weekend but the reality is....I did doodly-squat. I left on Saturday to go to the grocery store and Monday to go get dinner, that was it. I'm not complaining unless you want to talk about the friggin heat around here, how can it be in the mid 90's in May? I think Mother Nature should be put in jail with no bail. This weekend is suppose to be in the 70's, now that is what I am talking about. I am seriously thinking about trying the new park again this week sometime since the Reds are out of town. See ya around.

Another Cincinnati Reds Fireworks Event
What can I say I'll never get tired of photographing fireworks. This event was sponsored by Orville Redenbacher, each event seems to get better and better. Less people and photographers this time, I'm going to say because of the holiday. Unfortunately the Reds lost after a great sweep of the Braves which is a bit of a let down.
I know what you are going to say, FIREWORK OVERLOAD! I was quite happy with the amount that turned out. Hope you enjoy and have a happy and safe holiday weekend!!!

Wow, Lights On, No One Home
When I was trying to decide what to do this weekend I totally didn't know that this was the holiday weekend. How does one not know this? (See title of post) Cincinnati is totally out because of the Taste of Cincinnati, I would go if it wasn't going to be in the 90's, I mean c'mon it's only May. Now I'm not sure if I want to do a lot of traveling around. Geez I'm such a whiner today. Maybe I need an extra dose of my happy pills. :-)

Visiting Riverside Drive
My evening started out with good intentions however, it just didn't pan out. I thought a Wednesday night being such an off night I would head on down to check out Smale Park. If I was doing any kind of thinking at all I would have checked first to see if the Reds were playing, which they were, to late though I was already heading to the park, of course trying to find a parking space was impossible not to mention that when I drove by the park it was full of kids. I'm going to head back I think on Sunday to try my luck. After several trips through and around the city I headed back to Kentucky to Riverside Drive, no way I was heading home without a single photo. The landscape has changed a little with the addition of the park which is located in the center of the photo below where the green and purple lights are.

What To Do, Where To Go
I have been doing a little research on what to do this weekend, it is suppose to be a beautiful weekend so I am thinking about continuing my journey to Maysville, KY it's a bit of a trip but every photograph I have taken along RT. 8 has been so much fun, since we have no threats of any storms I think it will make it a good day tripper. I've also been reading a lot about the new park that has opened up in Cincinnati right on the other side of the Roebling Bridge called Smale Park, I've already seen some nice photos on other sites so a nighttime visit is going to have to be a must sometime in the near future. Stay tuned.
I just found this link from WCPO about the new park describing all the different phases that have and will take place. This video is a must see if you live in the area, I had no idea that the park was going to be this spectacular. Go on check it out it is truly amazing. Scroll down to just above the comments section to view video.

Railway Museum of Greater Cincinnati
This morning I went to the Railway Museum right when they first opened up. I couldn't believe how many people were already there. A lot of senior photos where being taken. I started out at the information railroad car which is located just as you enter the yard. I couldn't find anyone inside but I had to find out where to pay. I finally found out that you pay by the honor system, you put your money (cash only) in a little pay box located just below the information sheets. Anyone can easily just walk in without paying but c'mon it's only $4.00 and it is for a good cause.
Now for some advice, if you do not do well in the heat I would strongly recommend that you visit in the fall. I'm one of those that does not do well, I lasted less then an hour.
I could only find two cars that you were allowed to enter so that part was a bit disappointing, other then that it was absolutely worth the $4.00.
This part actually left me dumbfounded, I entered this car and as I was heading toward the front I found this beautiful camera and lens just sitting there, it was left by one of the guys taking the senior photos, how you walk away from thousands of dollars worth of equipment is beyond me, he was damn lucky that I am an honest person.
Sometimes photos just have to be in black and white.

Railway Museum
Did you know that we had a Railway Museum here in Northern Kentucky? I didn't until just this week. It is located in Latonia. It's a little tricky finding it but I took a side trip this week to do just that, after several wrong turns I did finally end up there. It is only open on Saturday's year round. I'm heading there tomorrow to check it out, for only $4.00 it is worth it. The photo below I borrowed from their website. Stay tuned for photos.

Krohn Conservatory/Devou Park
I tried my luck with the butterflies at Krohn's. I don't have a macro lens so I had to use a closeup filter, I am not happy with the results. The focus is off. All the butterfly photos came out a little blurry. It was totally my fault. I didn't want to use a flash so I increased my ISO and slowed the shutter speed to allow as much light in as possible, that actually would have worked really well, if I was using a tripod, the result was slight camera shake, my mistake. I also made another mistake although it isn't as noticeable, when I increased the ISO I thought I had set it at 800, instead I accidentally set it at 1600. Surprisingly though I had little noise, not sure why that happened, the amount of light was just perfect though.
I headed up to Devou Park and found an art piece from the Taft Museum on display, obviously a weather proof copy. Putting that on my list of places to go this summer. If I am not mistaken Sunday's are free. If you get a chance a must visit on anyone's list.
A closeup of the boys.
While up at the park I was listening to the radio, weather forecast was for sunshine, it was mostly cloudy and it rained. Someone was pretty off on that forecast.
